American Idol Hollywood Week – Straight Up

Written by: GG

The best audition from last night’s American Idol Hollywood Week show was from a guy named Andrew Garcia. He brilliantly flipped an old, ahem, Paula Abdul song and was the highlight of the night.

Unfortunately for him, he had to sing it to new host Ellen DeGeneres rather than Paula herself. Paula might’ve cried large tears if she saw it live.

Here’s Andrew Garcia’s rendition of Paula Abdul’s over 20 year old song, Straight Up:

  • That was a really slick version. I was glad to see him pass through to the next round.

The top 24 are chosen, and there is already supposedly a big mess brewing. Should I spoil it here, GG? Someone made it and was tossed out.

I read somewhere that someone leaked out that they made the top 24 or something like that?
  • Yes, but now the story is that the contestant's estranged father said something, and there is "proof" that the two haven't spoken in years. But the paper that printed the story also used to employ the mother. Very confusing. It's reminiscent of when Anoop made the new "Top 13" after Entertainment Weekly put him in the bullseye right before the episode of him getting cut was aired.

I will say this spoiler: one top 24 contestant had a sibling also make the top 24 a few years ago and AI's producers have said nothing about it yet in any backstory.

You can't have AI without some crazy political game going on, either with the judges or the contestants.
