I'm curious though about the whole teen idol thing. Doesn't this date back to Sinatra and before? Haven't we always had teen idols of one sort or another? As for new sounds, the problem is the fragmentation. If you do have a new sound and it's not formulaic enough to hit middle America, you don't get anywhere. I hear musicians in coffee houses, parks and on self-released albums with new sounds all the time. If they don't sound like Kellie or Carrie or Justin or Lil' Wayne or whoever, they're not making it.
