We Are The World 2010

Written by: GG

You had to think that this would happen eventually. But with the tragedy going on in Haiti, it probably couldn’t come at a better time.

This news bit comes from The Hollywood Reporter.

Reportedly, Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie are scheduled to do a sequel to We Are The World. It was originally scheduled to be a 25th anniversary project, but with the situation in Haiti, it’s now scheduled for the proceeds from the song (and video) to go to Haiti.

So far, the artists who are scheduled to be included are Usher, Natalie Cole, and John Legend, but you can imagine that everyone and their mother is going to want to get on this, especially since it’s scheduled to be recorded after the Grammys.

If only Michael Jackson was still alive to be a part of this. However, maybe somehow, his vocals from the original can still be used on the new song. Or maybe his brothers will be on the track.

Here’s the original:

They have to bring the Boss back to hit that hook. And Steveland and Hall are musts too. For me, I want Huey, but I imagine he and Cyndi are off the radar a bit.

Ok, they have to get Brother Ray in there too. I imagine that Ingram is probably not doing much these days, but I'd love to see him on it too.

I guess it's cheesy, but I was around the pop music scene during the original and love what they did. You can't watch the “Making Of…” more than once, but it's a must watch. I'm glad to see they're doing this again.

You know, the more I learn about Darryl Hall (whose voice I adore) and the more I see him live, the more I don't need him there.

I think Cyndi Lauper's voice has been underestimated by the public for decades. She is really a belter in an American Idol sort of way. I know musicians respect her. I would expect she could return. In the trio with Kim Carnes, Huey Lewis and Cyn, Kim Carnes must have blown the note 20 times. Huey was frustrated, Darryl Hall and Steve Perry were rolling their eyes on the side, Stevie tried to help her and Lauper stood four feet off the mic while Kim looked like she was performing fellatio on the same mic. The woman can flat out sing.

Folks I would love to see: Justin, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Ne-Yo, Mariah, Joss Stone, Bruce, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Adam Levine (are they up for anything — he may not be there), Jamie Foxx will be there.

The last one had some comedians. I would look for a few folks who can carry a tune like Adam Sandler or Wayne Brady.

But you're right, GG. This will be the hottest ticket around. And they can dub in Brother Ray (a must) and MJ.

I would like to see a changing of the guard from the classic rock crowd to new folks. Rob Thomas can sing a lead as well as Darryl Hall. Beyonce is our Diana Ross. It should be great.

Got something to say?
